The weavers of Calcutta
The local development organization with which Karawan has engaged a partnership for more than 7 years
includes about 200 manual looms that are distributed in village houses around Calcutta.
The majority of artisans are women, from spinning to weaving.
This know-how is ancestral and each household has a loom
which has its part in the daily life of the house.
We develop our collections with Shubha, a young Indian with roots and excellence
from the Indian textile tradition. She knows all the steps of the production and coordinates the quality of our proposals
in a perspective to maintain the tradition but also to evolve it by adapting it to our creations.
Resolutely committed to a sustainable development approach that tries to resist facing the mass textile industry
and to recognize the quality of manual weaving, as well as the cultural value of the lifestyles attached to it,
We are looking together for natural raw materials, respectful of man and the environment.
